The life of a kicker on a football team can be one of extremes. On Saturday, Hillsdale College sophomore Joe Philipp experienced the high end of that scale.
Philipp was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.
In Hillsdale's dramatic 20-17 win over the Oilers, Philipp converted two extra points and made two field goals, the latter of which broke a 17-17 tie with 90 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Philipp currently ranks second in the G-MAC with 6.3 points per game among conference kickers, and his six field goals made are tied for second in the G-MAC.
Philipp is a native of Hillsdale, Michigan.
