The Charger men's basketball team got the new season off to a strong start over the weekend, notching wins over a pair of talented GLVC opponents. Monday, one of the Charger players was rewarded for his role in those victories.
Senior Ryan Badowski earned the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award. The honor was chosen and announced by the conference office.
In picking up wins over Southern Indiana (77-70) and Illinois-Springfield (74-63), Badowski was accurate and efficient, scoring 19.5 points per game, with a high of 26 in Saturday's win over the Prairie Stars. He connected on five 3-point baskets in the first half of that game, helping Hillsdale build a lead that reached 16.
For the weekend, Badowski shot 71 percent from the floor and 70 percent from 3-point territory. He had 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in helping the Chargers to this 2-0 start. This is the second consecutive season Badowski has earned a conference player of the year honor in the season's opening week.
