Hillsdale College's softball team lost a pair of tight games Friday in Flordia, losing to Barry 5-2 and Lewis 4-3 in Clermont.
In Friday's opener, Barry scored three times in the fifth inning to break up a 1-1 tie. Hillsdale scored once in the seventh, but could not rally further, and stranded six runners on base.
Sophomore Sam Catron went 2-for-3 with a double, and junior Jessica Taylor also doubled, scoring one of the team's two runs. Sophomore Victoria Addis had a hit and a run scored, while Erin Gordon notched an RBI.
Friday's second game was also a frustrating defeat for Hillsdale (4-6). The Flyers scored four runs, all with two outs, in the bottom of the second inning. It turned out to be all the offense Lewis needed to pull out the one-run win. The Chargers again missed opportunities to score runs, leaving 12 runners on base.
Hillsdale outhit Lewis 13-9 in the game.
Freshman Emma Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run batted in, while Catron had her second straight 2-for-3 game. Leadoff hitter Katie Kish was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Taylor doubled as part of a 2-for-4 game. Sophomore Sydney San Juan also produced two hits in the game for Hillsdale.
