After a promising showing in its exhibition opener last weekend, the Charger women's basketball team tips it off for real at home this weekend, hosting former GLIAC rivals Saginaw Valley State Friday and Northwood Sunday...These are the only two home games for the Chargers until conference play begins on Dec. 5...Hillsdale lost its top three scorers from last year, but does have experience ready to step into larger roles this year...Guard Courtney Krol is a notable newcomer, transferring from DePaul University...Krol has four years of eligibility with the Chargers, having sat out her true freshman year with the Blue Demons due to injury...Saginaw Valley State was picked to finish in 6th place in the GLIAC South Division in the conference's preseason poll, while Northwood was picked 3rd...Chargers head coach Matt Fritsche begins his third season at Hillsdale and has won 36 games in those two years, most of any coach in Charger women's basketball history over their first two seasons with the program...The 2019-20 season will mark the fourth year in a row Hillsdale will have a different leading scorer for a season...Its last three leading scorers - Allie Dewire in 2016-17, Makenna Ott in 2017-18 and Brittany Gray in 2018-19 - have all graduated...Hillsdale beat Saginaw Valley State 97-67 in their last meeting, on Dec. 30, 2018...Northwood beat Hillsdale in the last meeting between those teams, 71-61, on Jan. 5, 2017.
