Junior middle hitter Allyssa Van Wienen distinguished herself as one of the very best players at last weekend's Midwest Region Crossover. Monday afternoon she continued a remarkable season of awards.
Van Wienen was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.
No team faced a slate of matches as tough as Hillsdale, facing #10 Lewis, #17 Rockhurst and the #3 seed from the GLIAC, Saginaw Valley State. The Chargers won eight of the 11 sets they played, taking 3-0 wins over the Hawks and Cardinals before falling 3-2 to the Flyers. Van Wienen was a powerful force, averaging 4.27 kills per set with a .386 hitting percentage. She was named to the All-Tournament Team thanks to her outstanding play.
Hillsdale, nationally ranked and sporting a 16-3 overall record, is back home this weekend for the first time in a month, hosting Ohio Dominican at 7:00 Friday.
