The Hillsdale College Chargers continued a dominant showing in terms of G-MAC awards so far in the 2025-26 campaign, following up an opening weekend that saw two athletes win weekly honors in December with three more earning recognition to kick off January.
Amelia Lutz,
Anna Roessner and
Ben Haas all brought home G-MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to impressive showings at the Al Campbell Invite this past Friday. It's Lutz' first ever weekly conference honor in her career, while Roessner has earned the award a second time, and Haas receives recognition for the 11th time in his storied career.
Lutz earned G-MAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors with a stunning display in the shot put on Friday, breaking not only her own school record by nearly a full meter but also shattering the G-MAC record in the indoor event with a mark of 16.42 meters to win the event in Akron. Lutz had earlier broken the Hillsdale record in December with a mark of 15.64 meters at the GVSU Holiday Open, but blew past that initial mark on Friday and also easily overtaking the G-MAC record of 16.08 meters set by former national champion Trista Fintel of Findlay.
The mark moves Lutz into a tie for the second best mark nationally, just three centimeters behind Erika Beistle of Grand Valley State University, and marks Lutz as one of a short list of contenders for the NCAA DII national title in the event in March.Â
She's joined in earning G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors by Roessner, who has kicked off her freshman campaign by winning the Women's Track Athlete of the Week award from the G-MAC twice in two opportunities. Roessner had a big personal best to win the 200m dash in 24.62 on Friday, the fourth-fastest time indoors in Hillsdale women's track history and the 20th fastest time nationally. She also took second and first among college competitors in the 60m dash with a time of 7.50 meters, a provisional mark but not an improvement on her top time of 7.36 in the event that remains the fastest in NCAA DII nationwide currently. She's another athlete, like Lutz, who will look to stay on track as a legitimate contender for All-American honors and potentially a national title in the sprints in March.
Rounding out the honorees this week is Haas, who was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week after taking two first places with season best marks in the weight throw and shot put on Friday. Haas threw 21.55 meters to win the weight throw, the second-best mark in NCAA DII to date, and also won the shot put with a throw of 17.79 meters which currently ranks ninth nationally.Â
The 2025 NCAA DII National Champion in the weight throw and a two-time national champion last season, Haas is off to a strong start to 2026 as he looks to add to his hardware and defend his title at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships in March.Â
All three athletes will be in action for Hillsdale at home this weekend as the Chargers host their annual Wide Track Classic on Friday, with events starting at 10 a.m.
