Biography

2022: Became one of the team's top defensive linemen after moving to end at the start of the season...played in all 11 games and was Hillsdale's most disruptive pass rusher, leading the Chargers in both sacks (7.5) and tackles for loss (11) while also recovering a fumble and intercepting a pass...twice earned the Chargers' Defensive Player of the Week award, first for a career-high eight tackles against Tiffin (Oct. 8) and then for a dominant performance against Northwood (Oct. 15) that included a sack, three tackles for loss and an interception...also recorded 2.5 sacks in a Sept. 17 contest against Truman State for the Chargers...along with his defensive work, also continued to be an excellent special teams player, earning Hillsdale's Special Teams Player of the Week award for the games against Walsh (Sept. 10), Truman State (Sept. 17) and Findlay (Oct. 22), as well as the One Play Warrior award as the program's best special teams performer in 2022...excellent student who received CSC Academic All-District honors for his performance in the classroom and on the field in 2022...a foundation piece for the Chargers defense as it heads into 2023.

2021: Made an impact in a growing role as a reserve linebacker and special teams player, appearing in 10 of the Chargers' 12 games and contributing nine total tackles...named to the One Play Warrior Club for his contributions on special teams in the 2021 season...will contend for a starting job in the fall of 2022.

2020-21: Earned an early role in his first season as a substitute and special teams player, recording two tackles in three appearances for the Chargers...will push for playing time in the fall 2021 season.

High School: Three-sport athlete, two-year captain and standout at linebacker at Hamilton High School in West Michigan…earned two All-OK Green honors in 2018 and 2019 and was a consensus All-State player in 2019, earning Division 3/4 second team honors from the Associated Press and Division 4 first team honors from the MHSFCA…also earned second-team All-Grand Rapids Press honors as a senior…finished his career with the Hawkeyes with 252 tackles, seven interceptions and four forced fumbles…older sister, Rachael, participated in track and field at Hillsdale College and was an All-American thrower…parents are Russ and Wendy Tolsma.
