Swim Team Wins Season Opener vs Albion

 

Chargers won their home opener against Albion 152 – 136 on Friday evening. Freshmen Hannah Wilkens and Katherine Heeres made their collegiate swimming debut with multiple firsts and junior Anika Ellingson won both the 50 and 100 breaststroke while sophomore Danielle LeBleu won both the 1000 and 100 freestyle. 

Wilkens took first place in the 200 freestyle (1:58.20) with Heeres in a close second (1:59.79). Wilkens continued her trend in the 500 with another first place (5:16.47) and finished with a second place in the 200 IM (2:16.99). Heeres also took two very impressive first places in the 100 backstroke (1:00.02) and 200 IM (2:15.19). 

Ellingson won both of her individual events with strong performances in the 50 (30.95) and 100 (1:06.80) breaststroke. LeBleu won the 1000 by 12 seconds (10:57.18) and followed up with another first in the 100 freestyle (55.86) and a second place in the 500 (5:26.13).  

Other strong performances were seen by the first place 200 medley relay of Heeres, Ellingson, Voisin, and DeTar (1:50.37). Sophomore Victoria Addis finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.90) and Junior Suzanne DeTar finished second in the 50 backstroke (28.50) and 50 freestyle (24.84). The Chargers went 2-3-4 in the 100 butterfly by Voisin (1:01.38), Houghton (1:01.46), and Matti (1:02.97). Freshmen Mary Vita took the bronze in the 50 free (26.37).
