Another member of the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team's stellar freshman class got recognition from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Monday.

Avery May was named the G-MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week by the conference office, becoming the second Charger swimmer and the second freshman to earn the honor this season as Hillsdale looks to be putting together a banner campaign.

May had the best weekend of her young career this past weekend at the Don Kimble Invitational, even by the high standards she's set early on at Hillsdale. The freshman posted her first-ever NCAA B-cut time in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:02.87, the sixth-fastest time in Hillsdale College women's swimming history in that event. 

The freshman from Mooresville, North Carolina put herself into national meet contention with that time, but it was far from her only big performance. May also had one of the best 400 IMs in program history to take another runner-up honor, posting the second-fastest time in the event at Hillsdale and in the G-MAC as a whole with 4:29.30 to place second. She also was part of a school-record setting 400 freestyle relay that finished in 3:29.24 and posted the eighth-fastest time in G-MAC history in the event along with teammates Sasha Babenko, Ella Malone and Ella Schafer. 

May is off to a great start as a Charger as Hillsdale hits the Christmas break in good form. The Chargers will travel to Florida for training over Christmas break, before returning for the second half of the season, beginning with a trip to Saginaw Valley State on Jan. 10 to take on the Cardinals and Ashland in a double-dual.
