One of the G-MAC's best 3-point shooting teams showed just how dangerous they could be on Thursday night.
The Hillsdale College women's basketball team rained 3s on visiting Cedarville in an 83-65 victory, pulling away from the Yellow Jackets for a critical conference win.
The Chargers knocked down a season-high 15 triples at a 55.6% clip, including going 6 of 8 from beyond the arc in a 26-point third quarter that put the game out of reach for Cedarville.
Three players hit four or more 3-pointers for the Chargers, led by sophomore
Emilia Sularski, who went 5 of 8 from beyond the arc for 15 points off the bench. Sularski's twin sister,
Magdalena Sularski, was just as hot, burying four of her five triple attempts and shooting 70% from the floor with a team-leading 18 points, and senior
Emma Ruhlman was 4 of 5 from deep as well to finish with 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Chargers shot well from start to finish, taking the lead at the 6:40 mark of the first quarter and quickly pushing their advantage to double-digits behind a combined three 3-pointers from the Sularski twins in three minutes.Â
Hillsdale maintained its edge in the second quarter and then set the tone with a 3-pointer by
Emma Ruhlman coming out of halftime, part of a scorching third quarter that helped the Chargers pull away for good.
Five Hillsdale players finished in double figures. Junior
Annalise Pietrzyk, the focus of Cedarville's perimeter defense, turned into an elite distributor, dishing out seven assists and setting up several of her teammates' 3-pointers while finishing with 14 points of her own, and
Savannah Smith finished with 10 points off the bench as well.
Ellie Bruce added seven points, five rebounds and three steals for the Chargers, who also did a solid job defensively, holding the Yellow Jackets to 39.7% shooting from the floor.
Hillsdale improves to 8-5 overall, 4-3 in the G-MAC with the victory, and now hit the road for a Saturday game against a feisty Tiffin squad that's pulled some upsets in G-MAC play so far. The contest is set to tip off at 3 p.m.
