Three Hillsdale College track and field athletes spent their summer representing the United States of America at the 2026 FISU America Games, taking place from July 20 to August 1 in Lima, Peru.

Now in its fourth edition, the FISU America games bring together decorated collegiate athletes from North, Central and South American countries, along with the Caribbean, to represent their nations and compete in 15 different sports.

Competing for the USA were Hillsdale College men's track and field athletes Dominic Scharer and Tommy Flud, and women's track and field athlete Amelia Lutz.

The three Chargers were tremendously successful in international competition, combining for four top-four finishes and three medals in the Games. Lutz, a two-time NCAA DII All-American in the shot put, took home gold in that event with a throw of 15.03 meters, and also won a bronze medal in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.25 meters. 

Scharer, a DII All-American indoors in the weight throw, brought home a silver medal in the hammer throw competition with a throw of 60.22 meters, close to his personal best in the event, while Flud took fourth in a strong javelin throw competition, with a mark of 61.47 meters.

All three athletes are returning to Hillsdale College in the fall and will look to add to their accomplishments for the Chargers in the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The first meet of the season for the Hillsdale College track and field teams will be in December.
