Brooke Bailey joined the Charger women's basketball program as an assistant coach in the summer of 2021, and is entering her second season after helping Hillsdale to a nine-win improvement in her first year with the team.
The position is Bailey's first collegiate coaching experience after a decorated and impressive playing career at the college and professional levels.
A native of Dixon, Illinois, Bailey was a three-year starter, two-year team captain and a critical player for Division II Truman State in women's basketball from 2014 to 2019. Playing under Amy Eagan, who was just named the NCAA Division II Coach of the Year this past season, Bailey led the Bulldogs to a school record in wins (23) and the program's fourth NCAA tournament appearance as a senior in 2018-19, earning second-team All-GLVC honors.
She's in the top 10 in Truman history in career made 3-pointers (139) and second in most games played (115).
After graduating from Truman in 2019, Bailey spent a year overseas in Edinburgh, Scotland, for the Caledonia Pride, the only professional women's basketball team in Scotland and a member of the Women's British Basketball League. Bailey was the starting point guard and a team captain for the Pride in her lone season as a professional.
"We're very excited to add Brooke to our staff," Hillsdale College head coach Charlie Averkamp said. "She had a fantastic career at Truman State and as someone who excelled at the Division II level, will have all the tools necessary to work with our student athletes who are looking to get to that same place in their careers.
"She has been coached by two great coaches in high school and college, and we're excite to see her starting her coaching career here with us at Hillsdale!"
Prior to Hillsdale, Bailey served as a summer coach in Dixon, Illinois for the local junior girls basketball league throughout her time at Truman and also volunteering as an individual skills instructor for the last five years.
She's also served as a Tournament Operations Staff Member for both the U.S. Junior National Basketball and Team Iowa Athletics Tournaments in the summer of 2020 as well.
Bailey graduated from Truman State in 2019 with a B.S. in Health Science, and completed a Master's of Science in Strength and Conditioning at the University of Edinburgh while playing overseas in Scotland this past November.
