The Charger volleyball team got an extended look at its future, and it looked pretty bright Saturday afternoon.

Hillsdale College got career matches from freshmen Briana Herr (pictured) and Erin Holsinger as it swept Lake Superior State University 3-0 in Sault Ste. Marie. The Chargers won the sets by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-21.

Hillsdale is now 14-10 overall and 9-4 in the GLIAC, and begins a much-needed five-match homestand Tuesday night against defending conference champion Northwood.

Holsinger and Herr each started and played in a regular rotation throughout the match, and both were unstoppable offensively. Holsinger helped get Hillsdale off to a good start with four kills in the first set, while Herr's blocking and attacking helped polish off the win in the third set.

The team's bets jumper, Holsinger was nearly perfect on offense, generating nine kills in 12 attempts for a .750 hitting percentage. She also set career-highs in blocks, with two solos and three assists.

Herr nerly matched Holsinger's efficiency with a career-high eight kills and had a .500 hitting percentage. Herr's power was evident at the net as she set new career-highs with one solo block and seven block assists. The two freshmen combined to figure in 11 of Hillsdale's 25 points in the third set.

Senior Caitlin Kopmeyer registered her second straight 12-kill match for the Chargers, and had five digs. Sophomore Marissa Owen and junior Alexis Waugh each handed out 18 assists for Hillsdale, who has won seven of its last eight GLIAC matches.
