For the first time since Oct. 30, 2009, the Hillsdale College volleyball team lost to the University of Findlay.
The Oilers won three closely played sets over the Chargers, 25-22, 25-21 and 25-23 in the GLIAC matchup played at Findlay. Hillsdale is now 9-12 overall and 7-7 in the GLIAC, and takes on Malone and Walsh at home this weekend.
Hitting percentages are down across the board in the GLIAC this year, and this match was indicative of that trend. Findlay, the winning team, hit just .159 in the match. But the Oilers held the Chargers to a team hitting percentage of .101, and outblocked Hillsdale 12-9 in the match.
Hillsdale trailed throughout the first two sets, but jumped out to a 10-5 lead in set three. However, Findlay came back to take a 17-15 lead. The set was played as tightly as possible from there, with the Oilers coming out on top.
Junior Jordan Denmark led Hillsdale's offense with 11 kills in the match. Junior Emily Wolfert added 8 kills and 11 digs for the Chargers, and junior Marissa Owen had 28 assists.
Hillsdale had won five straight matches over Findlay, and has now lost to the Oilers three times since Oct. 2, 2004.
