The road continued to be unkind to the Charger volleyball team Saturday afternoon.
After winning the first set in impressive fashion, Hillsdale dropped the final three sets in a 3-1 loss to Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan. The Chargers now stand at 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the GLIAC.
The team will try to turn around its road fortunes next weekend when it faces Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State.
Hillsdale got off to a strong start to the match, going on a 9-3 run to win the opening set 25-18. But that would be the last of the good news for the Chargers from there, as the Huskies dominated the net from there, winning the final three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-15.
MTU controlled the middle in this match, finishing with 2 solo blocks and 12 block assists as a team, compared to 1 and 4 for the Chargers. A day after committing 24 hitting errors in a loss at Northern Michigan, Hillsdale committed 26 hitting errors against the Huskies.
Junior Haylee Booms was Hillsdale's most efficient player, finishing with 9 kills and a .33 hitting percentage. Junior Emily Wolfert registered a team-high 13 kills to go along with 7 digs and 2 service aces.
Junior Marissa Owen (pictured) handed out 39 assists while junior Jordan Denmark led the Chargers defensively with 13 digs.
