The Hillsdale College women's basketball team played one of its strongest halves of the season Thursday night, taking on the nationally ranked Michigan Tech University Huskies.

But in the second half, the Huskies strengthened defensively, and came away from Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena with a 64-57 win over the Chargers. Hillsdale is now 10-5 overall and 6-5 in the GLIAC, and will host defending GLIAC Tournament champion Northern Michigan University at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.

Hillsdale played solid two-way basketball in the first half, controlling the boards and getting good play from reigning player of the week Megan Fogt in building a 32-27 halftime lead. The Chargers held the Huskies without a single offensive rebound in the first half.

But the tide turned in the second half.

The Chargers did finish with a 35-31 edge in rebounding, but MTU grabbed six offensive boards in the second half. That translated into a 12-0 edge in second-chance points for the visitors in the second half, which equalled the 37-25 scoring edge it had in that half.

Fogt scored all 10 of her points in the first half, and finished with 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 25 minutes.

Hillsdale was led by sophomore guard Morgan Blair, who had another terrific all-around performance. She led the team with 14 points, going 6-for-10 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the 3-point stripe. She also had 4 rebounds and just 1 turnover in 33 efficient minutes.

Junior guard Madison Berry made all 6 of her free throw attempts and had 9 points in the game. Senior Kadie Lowery made a pair of 3-pointers and had 8 on the night.
