As regular seasons wins go, they don't come much bigger than this.
The Charger volleyball team played a complete match in earning a 3-1 win over the University of Findlay Tuesday night at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Anrea. Hillsdale is now 18-6 overall and 10-4 in conference play.
Every element of the game was working well for the Chargers. The team serve receive passed effectively against a heavy Oiler serve. Setters Taylor Bennett and Marissa Owen did a nice job of spreading the ball around, as five players had between nine and 11 kills. Hillsdale outblocked Findlay as a team 15-7, providing not only key points, but shutting down the Oilers' potent offense.
Findlay got out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-23 win in set one. The Chargers shook loose for wins of 25-22 and 25-23 in sets two and three. Sophomore libero Brittany Jandasek went on a hot streak serving in set four, helping the Chargers race out to a huge lead. Findlay rallied, but fell shot in set four, 25-20.
Jandasek, who was excellent on the back row all night, led the team with 20 digs and back-to-back aces in set four that helped Hillsdale on an 8-0 run that took the score from 8-7 to 16-7.
Senior middle hitter Emily Wolfert was powerful all night, finishing with 11 kills, one solo block and 8 block assists. Freshman Paige VanderWall and senior Jordan Denmark added 10 kills each. Denmark set a season-high in kills in the victory, and she showed excellent jumping ability and movement all night.
Senior Haylee Booms finished off set three with a kill shot that hugged the net before dropping on Findlay's side. She had 9 kills, 0 errors and a .634 hitting percentage.
Owen dished out 27 assists while Bennett added 21 assists. Hillsdale hit .229 as a team compared to .217 for the Oilers. The Oilers hurt themselves with 9 service errors in the game.
UP NEXT: Hillsdale heads to Canton, Ohio for road matches against Walsh and Malone.
