It took less than an hour for the Charger volleyball team to win its fourth match in a row.
Friday night in Canton, Ohio, Hillsdale ran its record to 19-6 overall and 11-4 in the GLIAC with a 3-0 win over Malone University. The Chargers stay in the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, taking on Walsh University at 2:00 Saturday.
Hillsdale was in full control from start to finish, winning the three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-20.
The Chargers didn't have a particularly overwhelming offensive match. The team had 33 kills, with only one player – senior Emily Wolfert – getting more than 5 kills. But Hillsdale did a good job of finding points in less conventional places. The 33 kills are the fewest this season by the Chargers in a victory.
Hillsdale had 10 service aces as a team, the fifth time this season it's cracked double figures in aces as a team. Marissa Owen and Brittany Jandasek each had back-to-back aces as part of long scoring runs in the match. Freshman Kara Vyletel also had 2 aces.
Malone committed 8 service errors, when combined with 21 hitting errors, gave the Chargers a ton of points without needing kills or blocks. The Pioneers hit .096 for the match, with 31 kills and 21 errors. By comparison, the Chargers had just 2 more kills, but committed 11 fewer attack errors.
Vyletel had 5 kills while Paige VanderWall, Jordan Denmark, Erin Holsinger and Haylee Booms all finished with 4 kills. Owen had 13 assists and Jandasek led the back row players with 17 digs.
