For the first time since it entered the GLIAC in 2010, the Lake Erie College men's basketball team achieved a win over Hillsdale College.
Thanks to some hot shooting from 3-point land, the Storm defeated the Chargers 82-69 Saturday afternoon in Painesville, Ohio. Hillsdale falls to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play with the loss.
Lake Erie opened the game red-hot from 3-point territory and seemed to hit 3-pointers at the most crucial points of the contest, keeping the Chargers from ever being able to build momentum. LEC went 13-for-23 from the 3-point stripe, accounting for nearly half its points in the game.
The combination of Sean Howard and Andy Bosley drained a combined total of eight 3-point shots and accounted for 45 of the team's 82 points.
The Storm also contained Charger forward Kyle Cooper effectively, particularly in the first half, when Cooper went 0-for-5 as Hillsdale faced a nine-point deficit at intermission. Cooper heated up in the second half however, and finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss.
Senior center Jason Pretzer turned in another strong game with a team-high 19 points, going 7-for-9 from the field with three made 3-pointers. Freshman guard Nate Neveau came off the bench to score 15, going 5-for-9 from the field.
