Through three games, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team has been on a historic pace for the program offensively.
That pace didn't slow down on Wednesday night, as the Chargers rolled past visiting East-West University in a 105-46 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Hillsdale knocked down 14 3-point shots on 26 attempts, for 53.8% shooting from deep, to beat the Phantoms. It's the third-straight game the Chargers have exceeded 50% from the 3-point line, a scorching hot multi-game run that has Hillsdale leading the nation at the NCAA DII level in 3-point percentage through three contests.
Six players scored in double-figures for the Chargers, who overcame a slow start offensively to lead 49-13 at halftime and continue building from there. Redshirt freshman
Logan Beaston continued his red-hot start with 18 points to lead the way, knocking down 6 of 9 3-point attempts in 24 minutes, and junior
Cole McWhinnie added 11 points on 3 for 4 shooting from deep off the bench as well.
In the paint, sophomore
Caleb Glaser had the best night of his young career for the Chargers, shooting 8 of 9 from the floor to finish with an 18 point, 10 rebound double-double in just 18 minutes of play.
Mikey McCollum added 17 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Chargers,
Charles Woodhams chipped in 15 points, five rebounds and three assists and Ashton Janwoski finished with 11 point and three assists as well for Hillsdale. Senior
Joe Reuter was an effective distributor for the Chargers, dishing out a team-leading six assists and grabbing 11 boards to go with five points.
As a team, Hillsdale finished with 26 assists on 37 made baskets, with 11 of 12 players dishing out at least one assist. Along with the great shooting night from deep, Hillsdale shot 66.1% from the floor overall, and outrebounded East-West 51-11.
The Chargers have another home contest on Saturday, hosting NAIA opponent Judson (IL) for a 3 p.m. tip.
