Fraboulet steps aside as Chargers women's tennis coach; Walbright to lead team in 2024-25 season

Hillsdale College women's tennis head coach Liam Fraboulet announced on Monday that he is stepping away from his coaching position with the Chargers in order to pursue other career opportunities, effective immediately.

Fraboulet had spent two seasons at the helm of the Chargers, continuing the program's tradition of success by leading the Chargers to back-to-back winning seasons in G-MAC play and maintaining the team's streak of G-MAC Tournament semifinal appearances, now at six straight campaigns. During his tenure, Sarah Hackman won the second of two G-MAC Player of the year awards in the 2022-23 season, and Fraboulet also recruited Ane Dannhauser and was her coach as she was named G-MAC Freshman of the Year for her play in the 2023-24 season.

Taking Fraboulet's place as head coach of the Chargers for the 2024-25 campaign set to begin in just over a month is a familiar face for the Hillsdale College women's tennis program, as former coach Nikki Walbright steps back into the role for the season to come.

Walbright was tabbed in 2010 as the head coach of the reconstituted Hillsdale College women's tennis program, restarting a team that had been inactive for six seasons. Beginning with the 2011-12 season, Walbright built the program up from nothing over the course of 11 seasons in charge, culminating in back-to-back G-MAC regular season championships and three straight G-MAC Tournament titles, along with Hillsdale's first-ever NCAA DII Tournament appearance. When she stepped aside following the 2021-22 season, Walbright was the second-winningest coach in program history.

While it's been two seasons since Walbright was coaching the women's tennis program, she's remained an important part of the Hillsdale College athletic department as an Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman's Administrator during that time. Walbright will retain both of those roles at Hillsdale College as she returns to coaching.

"The Hillsdale College women's tennis program is something that holds a special place in my heart, and I am motivated to do what I can to help the program have another successful season in the coming year," Walbright said. "I'm looking forward to working with assistant coach Melanie Zampardo and our talented and passionate group of players to try and be the best we can be in 2024-25."
