Chargers take down Tiffin, 3-0; head to crossover with momentum

Hillsdale bounced back from a tough loss on Friday night with a sweep over visiting Tiffin on Saturday, taking an emphatic victory to celebrate Alumni Day.

The Chargers got off to a rough start in the first set, trailing 9-4, but rallied and seized control behind eight kills in the set from Ellie Fles, who consistently found the winning shot against Tiffin's defensive alignment. Caroline Lanicek added four kills as Hillsdale's offensive attack helped seal a 25-22 victory.

With set one in hand, the Chargers didn't look back, continuing to hit with confidence in one of the team's best offensive performance this season. The Chargers hit .400 and never trailed past a 1-1 tie in a strong 25-19 set two victory, and Hillsdale was in control for much of set three, pounding 20 kills and holding off a late charge by Tiffin to seal the match with a 25-21 win.

Fles had easily the best match of her young career to lead the Chargers, finishing with a team season-high 21 kills on .486 hitting, along with 13 digs and two service aces. Lanicek hit .500 with nine kills as well for Hillsdale and Adi Sysum chipped in eight kills.

Chloe Pierce finished with nine digs and an ace to lead Hillsdale defensively, while Josie TeSlaa and Grace Drake split setting duties once again, with TeSlaa finishing with 20 assists and six digs, and Drake chipping in 18 assists and four digs, along with three kills in the third set.

Hillsdale improves to 6-7 overall, 4-3 in the G-MAC heading into next week's Midwest Regional Crossover in Hammond, Indiana. The Chargers will play three matches against teams from the GLIAC and GLVC, the other two conferences that make up the Midwest Region along with the G-MAC, and today's victory should ensure Hillsdale is in the top half of the draw and will get matched up against quality opponents in both leagues. The Chargers will play two matches on Friday and one on Saturday, with the slate of opponents to be announced tomorrow.
