Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Chargers win third straight with clean sweep of Ashland

The Hillsdale College volleyball team continued its recent run of solid form with a second straight road victory and third straight overall on Friday night, rolling past host Ashland for a 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 win.

The Chargers just overpowered the Eagles at the net to take the victory, outhitting Ashland .300 to .048 with 38 kills to the Eagles' 26 and eight blocks to the Eagles' two. Hillsdale added to its edge with a dominant service night, finishing with 11 aces to add to the margin of victory.

Hillsdale trailed just twice in three sets and never allowed Ashland a lead bigger than 3-2, using long runs to pull away in every set on the night for a comfortable victory.

Jenna Southland led Hillsdale with a dominant night that perfectly represented the Chargers' advantage at the net. The sophomore hit a mind-blowing .750 with 12 kills to lead the Chargers offensively and chipped in six total blocks and three aces as well. Adi Sysum and Grace Drake each added six kills for the Chargers, with Drake also finishing with 12 assists and five digs, while Emory Braswell chipped in five kills and nine digs and Ellie Fles added four kills, six digs and four service aces.

Josie TeSlaa was the top setter on the night for Hillsdale with 18 assists, and also led the Chargers defensively with 13 digs as Ashland tried to get Hillsdale out of system by attacking the setter. That plan failed, however, as the Chargers were able to find alternative avenues to set up their offense. Chloe Pierce added 11 digs and two service aces as well.

Hillsdale is now 9-10 overall, 7-3 in G-MAC play and have solidified their spot in the top five in the conference standings with the win over the Eagles and other results from around the league. The Chargers finish off the weekend road trip tomorrow at 5 p.m. with a match against Lake Erie, looking to continue to put pressure on the top four teams in the standings and try to find a way to sneak into a top four spot and secure hosting rights for a quarterfinal match in the upcoming G-MAC Tournament.
