Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Chargers crush Northwood on Senior Day in 80-47 victory

After a rough recent stretch, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team got back on track in a big way on Saturday, demolishing visiting Northwood 80-47 to celebrate Senior Day in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

Hillsdale led early but blew the game open with a dominant 28-3 in the middle of the first half, turning what had been a 10-5 contest through five minutes into a 38-8 rout. From there, the Chargers never let Northwood come closer the a 22-point deficit, smothering the Timberwolves defensively and continuing to pull away offensively throughout the second half.

The Chargers' three seniors all had strong nights for the game held in their honor. Charles Woodhams finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, Joe Reuter stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals, and Eric Radisevic added eight points and five rebounds.

Four additional chargers finished in double figures as junior Ashton Janowski led the way with 14 points, redshirt freshman Logan Beaston chipped in 12 and Garrett Bolte and Cole McWhinnie each chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Hillsdale got hot from the outside to start, knocking down seven 3-pointers at a 50% clip in the first half, then finished by getting to the rim in the second half to hold their edge.

Defensively, the Chargers held Northwood to 39.6% shooting from the floor and forced 16 Timberwolves turnovers. Hillsdale also dominated the glass, outrebounding Northwood 39-22 and not conceding a single offensive rebound to the Timberwolves in the victory.

The win is a much-needed one for Hillsdale, which had lost six of its last seven entering the contest, and one in which the Chargers looked much more like themselves at both ends of the floor than in the past few weeks.

Hillsdale (17-8, 11-6 G-MAC) will look to build off today's win over the final two weeks of the regular season, with three critical G-MAC contests remaining before the conference tournament. The Chargers next hit the road to take on G-MAC leader Findlay, who beat the Chargers 76-71 earlier in the season at Hillsdale. The game against the Oilers is this coming Thursday, and pulling an upset would be a huge boon to the Chargers' chances of potentially hosting a first round game in the G-MAC Tourney in three weeks.
