The Hillsdale College women's tennis team were defeated by another nationally ranked opponent on a tough Florida trip for Spring Break on Wednesday.
The Chargers were beaten 7-0 by the 15th-ranked team in NCAA DII, Nova Southeastern, on Wednesday, after falling to the top-ranked NAIA team in the country, Keiser, the day before.
Against the Sharks, Hillsdale was able to win a match. Although the Chargers still lost the doubles point, Hillsdale's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore
Ane Dannhauser and freshman
Briana Rees pulled off a 6-3 upset of Nova Southeastern's top squad in an impressive victory.
In singles play, Nova Southeastern was too much for the Chargers. Dannhauser played the closest match at #1 singles, falling 6-3, 6-0 to a top 60 ranked player in NCAA DII in the Sharks' Kristyna Hrancova.
Hillsdale is now 5-6 overall, but the last two days could be important for the Chargers, who tested themselves against competition that will likely be tougher than any opponent they may see for the rest of the season. That could bode well for Hillsdale with G-MAC play right around the corner. The Chargers finish their Spring Break trip tomorrow with a match against Palm Beach Atlantic.
