Box Score The Hillsdale College women's tennis team finished its Spring Break trip to Florida in winning fashion on Thursday morning, beating host Palm Beach Atlantic in a tight 4-3 match.
Key to Hillsdale's victory was taking what turned out to be a critical doubles point. Both Hillsdale's top pairing of sophomore
Ane Dannhauser and freshman
Briana Rees, and the Chargers' No. 2 doubles pairing of
Courtney Rittel and
Megan Hackman took 6-2 victories to secure doubles in a match that was decided by a single point.
In singles play, Dannhauser won a tough match against Palm Beach Atlantic's Alina Hoermann that included a first-set tiebreak, 7-6 (5), 6-2, to win at No. 1 singles, and both of Hillsdale's two freshmen came through with match-clinching victories.
Rees won at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 defeat of PBAU's Elsa Brenner, while
Julia Zlateva rolled to victory at No. 5 singles for the Chargers in a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Hillsdale improves to 6-6 with the win, and will return to Michigan this weekend with the start of conference play looming next week. The Chargers travel to Kentucky for a March 22 match against Kentucky Wesleyan next to kick off G-MAC competition.
