2024-25 All-G-MAC Men's Golf Team
An All-G-MAC performer as a freshman in 2023-24,
Robert Thompson played even better for the Hillsdale College men's golf team as a sophomore in 2024-25, developing into one of the team's top players and most consistent performers.
It's no surprise, then, that Thompson is bringing home well-deserved All-G-MAC honors for the second straight season, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.
Thompson finished the 2024-25 season as Hillsdale's top-ranked player nationally and the 23rd-ranked player in the Midwest Region on the back of four top six finishes and seven top 20 finishes in 10 events. The sophomore started the season on fire with top 11 finishes in the first four events, including a career-best runner-up finish in the Get To Foundation Invitational hosted by Hillsdale College in September where Thompson tied for the top spot after 54 holes of play and came in second in a playoff.
After a slow start to the spring campaign, Thompson raised his game and played some of his best golf in the two biggest invitationals of the year for the Chargers, tying for an impressive sixth place at the G-MAC Championships in April at BelTerra Resort in Florence, Indiana. That performance was his second top 10 finish in a conference championship and helped Hillsdale end a four year NCAA Super Regional drought, as the team's fourth place finish punched Hillsdale's ticket to the NCAA DII Central/Midwest Super Regional in May.
Thompson also excelled with a strong performance in the Super Regional, finishing as Hillsdale's top golfer and tying for 19th overall in a field of the best of the best players in the Central and Midwest Regions by shooting three over par for 54 holes.
The sophomore is just the second player since Hillsdale restarted its men's golf program in the 2014-15 season to earn repeat All-Conference honors, joining Liam Purslowe, who was a first-team All-G-MAC player in 2018 and 2019. Thompson is set to return in the fall to chase an unprecedented third-straight first team All-G-MAC honor and help a rising Chargers team that's full of young talent contend for a G-MAC title and the program's first ever NCAA DII National Championship appearance in 2025-26.
