Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Chargers defeated by Tiffin on the road, 80-52

The Hillsdale College women's basketball game never got in gear offensively and couldn't withstand an impressive 3-point shooting night from host Tiffin in an 80-52 loss on Saturday.

The Chargers started slow and never found their rhythm, scoring just seven first-quarter points and falling behind by 19 after one period. Tiffin stayed hot in the second quarter to take a 43-16 lead into halftime, and the game never really got closer from there.

A brutal shooting night sunk the Chargers, as Hillsdale finished just 33.9% from the floor and 3 of 16 from 3-point range, giving them no chance of keeping pace with a Tiffin team that knocked down five 3-pointers in the first quarter and never let up.

Annalise Pietrzyk finished with 15 points, three steals and two blocks to lead the Chargers, Savannah Smith added 12 points off the bench and Emma Ruhlman chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Ellie Bruce added nine points and seven rebounds as well for Hillsdale, which grabbed 38 boards and 13 offensive rebounds but couldn't convert on second-chance opportunities in the loss.

The Chargers (8-6, 4-4 G-MAC) will look to shake this one off and get back on track with a challenging week ahead, starting with a trip to rival Findlay on Thursday and then finishing with a battle against past G-MAC powerhouse Ashland at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena on Saturday. Hillsdale can't afford to drop both games with tough contests left in February and a tight race for a G-MAC Tourney spot shaping up.
