A record-setting effort helped Hillsdale College's Drake Badger earn G-MAC Football Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Badger was named the G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon, after tying a G-MAC record in Hillsdale's win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday. It's the seventh weekly conference award a Hillsdale player has earned this season.

The senior from Verona, Wisconsin terrorized the Panthers as a rush end this past weekend, recording four sacks to tie the G-MAC single game record set by Michael Cox of Lake Erie in 2021. One of Badger's four sacks was a strip sack that forced a fumble, recovered by the Chargers and leading to Hillsdale's second touchdown in a 52-21 victory.

Not only does Badger's performance tie the G-MAC record, it's also the best single-game performance by a Charger in 25 years. Not since Jim Stewart recorded four sacks in an Oct. 13, 2001 contest against Wayne State has a Hillsdale player reached that number in a single contest.

A returning first-team All-G-MAC player, Badger leads the conference through nine games with 10 sacks, and ranks second in tackles for loss with 13. He's the first Hillsdale player in nearly two decades to record back-to-back double-digit sack seasons, and he ranks fifth all-time in Hillsdale College history with 29 sacks, and fifth in tackles for loss as well with 42.

Badger will look to add to his total as the Chargers defense tries to shut down rival Ashland at noon on Saturday in Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium, and reclaim the Traveling Trophy contested by the Chargers and Eagles since the early 1970s.
