2025-26 G-MAC Indoor Track and Field Awards
Hillsdale College men's track and field senior
Ben Haas continues to receive recognition after the conclusion of his final indoor track and field campaign.
Haas won two awards on Wednesday afternoon, earning the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's Men's Field Athlete of the Year award as a part of the G-MAC's annual awards release, and also bringing in special honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the organization's national Men's Field Athlete of the Year for the 2025-26 NCAA DII campaign.
The senior joins rare company in being recognized by the USTFCCCA at the national level. He is the first ever Charger men's track and field athlete to win a national award from the USTFCCCA, and the third overall, joining Amanda Putt in 2012 and Emily Oren in 2015 and 2016 in receiving national recognition from the coaches' association.
It's a fitting cap to a historic indoor career for Haas, who won back-to-back NCAA DII indoor national titles in the weight throw the past two seasons. Haas won his second straight title on March 13 at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach with a winning throw of 22.97 meters, breaking his own school record in the event and cementing his place as the fourth-farthest weight thrower in the history of NCAA DII. On top of back-to-back national titles, Haas was a four-time NCAA DII All-American and a four-time Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion in the weight throw. As one of the best in the history of the division, Haas now heads into his final outdoor campaign this spring looking to repeat as the NCAA DII national champion in the hammer throw as well and capture a fourth national title in his storied career.
On top of those two honors, Haas also was recognized with a first-team All-G-MAC distinction, his fourth-straight season receiving that honor. The senior earned that distinction not just because of his G-MAC title in the weight throw, but also because of his G-MAC crown in the shot put in the same meet.
Haas wasn't the only Chargers men's track and field athlete to receive honors on Wednesday, as two other Hillsdale standouts also received second team All-G-MAC honors. Redshirt freshman
Dominic Scharer and senior
Ross Kuhn both finished runner-up at the G-MAC Indoor Championships in their events to earn the honor. Â
It's Scharer's first All-G-MAC honor after the freshman finished runner-up to Haas in the weight throw at the G-MAC Indoor Championships. Scharer later went on to finish third behind Haas and earn All-American honors at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships, and his top throw of 21.55 meters is tied with 2010 NCAA DII National Champion Jason Stomps for the second farthest all-time in Hillsdale College history.
Kuhn, meanwhile, was runner-up in the mile at the G-MAC Indoor Championships in a season where he shattered the Hillsdale school record in that event, with a time of 4:02.42 at the Meyo Invitational in late January. Â
