For the second straight season, the Hillsdale College men's golf team will play in the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional.
The Chargers were one of 10 Midwest Region teams that earned a spot in the NCAA DII Central/Midwest Regional, the NCAA announced on Sunday afternoon. Hillsdale will travel to Big Rapids, Michigan to compete in the three-day event at the Katke Golf Coutse on the Ferris State University campus from May 7-9, and battle for a chance to advance to the program's first-ever NCAA DII Championship, scheduled to take place on May 18-22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
The top three finishing teams in the Central/Midwest regional, along with the top two individuals not on an advancing team, will earn a berth to the national championship in Nevada, along with eight other at-large teams selected by the results of last year's NCAA DII Championship.
Hillsdale used a historic fall campaign that included three top three team finishes, along with a title at the Malone-Glenmoor Invitational, to claim a spot in the field as the 10th and final qualifying team from the Midwest. The Chargers locked up their bid with a fourth-place finish in the G-MAC Championship earlier this week, doing enough to remain in the field at selection time. Junior
Robert Thompson and sophomore
Jackson Piacsek tied for ninth place in the G-MAC Championships to help get the Chargers over the finish line. Thompson is one of the top rated golfers in the Midwest Region, with two medalist honors and a third runner-up finish already this season, while fellow junior
Oliver Marshall also has an individual event victory to his name as well.
This is Hillsdale's fourth appearance in the NCAA DII Regional round as a team, and the first time the Chargers have earned qualification in back-to-back seasons. Hillsdale placed 15th in the Super Regional last season, and finished tied for 11
th in 2021 and tied for 13
th in 2019 in their two other qualifications. The best individual performance by a Chargers golfer in the NCAA Regional remains Joel Pietila's tie for ninth place playing as an individual in the 2017 Regional, followed closely by Ryan Zetwick's tie for 10
th place in 2021. Thompson led the Chargers with a tie for 19th place at the 2025 Regional.
