The Hillsdale College softball team saw its eight-game winning streak halted on Friday afternoon, as the Chargers couldn't keep a hot Tiffin offense in check in 11-6 and 8-0 losses to the Dragons in a road doubleheader.
Hillsdale held an early lead in the first game with a bases-loaded walk by
Nathalie Hagle in the top of the first inning, and tied the game at 2-all in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by
Medleigh Danchak. Tiffin, however, pulled in front with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, and scored five more runs, including another three-run home run, to pull away in the bottom of the fifth.
The Chargers put four runs on the board in the top of the sixth thanks in part to another RBI single by Danchak and a two-run single by
Taylor Lewis to attempt a comeback, but Hillsdale was still three runs short of the lead and a third home run by the Dragons in the bottom of the inning put the game out of reach for an 11-6 final.
Ronnie Craft was 2 for 4 with a double,
Taylor Lewis went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and
Maggie Olaveson was 3 for 4 to lead Hillsdale offensively in the opener, while Danchak added her two RBI hits and
Olivia Liguori and
Emma Sather each chipped in a double.
Mackenzi Maxson (6-4) took the loss for the Chargers, striking out six and walking four in four and two-thirds innings of work, and
Anistyn Foster also pitched an inning and a third of relief.
In the nightcap, Tiffin jumped on the Chargers early with six runs in the first two innings, and Hillsdale couldn't get the bats going with just four hits in the contest in an 8-0 loss.
Ronnie Craft,
Sydney Davis and
Emma Sather each had a single and a stolen base to lead the Chargers offensively.
Grace Harris took the loss, pitching three and a third innings with two strikeouts and two walks, and
Katie Jonas also pitched one and two-thirds innings of relief.
Hillsdale is now 20-13 overall, 8-2 in G-MAC play and will look to bounce back on Monday with another tough road doubleheader, as the Chargers travel to G-MAC contender Findlay for a 1 p.m. start.
