The Hillsdale College men's track and field team completed a solid three-day run at the 2026 G-MAC Outdoor Championships on Friday, taking fifth place as a team.
The Chargers placement was a two-spot improvement on their seventh place finish in the meet in 2025, and was sealed with several strong performances on the final day of the meet, taking place on the Hillsdale College campus at the Jim and Sallie McGinnis Track and Field Facility. Hillsdale also saw senior
Ben Haas take home G-MAC Field Athlete of the Meet honors thanks to titles in the hammer throw on Wednesday and shot put on Thursday.
Hillsdale's top finish on Friday came in the discus, where the Chargers had two athletes score, led by freshman
Dominic Scharer's personal best throw of 49.73 meters to take third place. That throw also moves Scharer up to seventh all-time in Hillsdale College history in that event. Teammate
Jackson Childress took sixth in the discus and scored points as well with a throw of 48.26 meters.
On the track, senior
Ross Kuhn ran the second fastest 800m run in Chargers history, 1:50.93, to take fourth in the meet with a new personal best. Hillsdale also got a fourth place finish from the 4x100m relay team of
Wyatt Widolff,
Watson Magwenzi,
Luan Kummle and
Sam Jones in 41.31, the 10th fastest 4x100m relay time in program history, and the Chargers' 4x400m relay team of Widolff,
Jack Polizzi,
Colsen Conway and
Zealand Tarrant took fifth as well in 3:16.51.
Senior
Connor McCormick had a great showing for Hillsdale in the pole vault, breaking five meters for the first time in his career with a clearance of 5.02 meters to place sixth. McCormick is just the third man in Hillsdale College history to surpass five meters in the pole vault outdoors, and he also set a NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark, now ranking 31st in the nation at the NCAA DII level.
Freshman
John Richardson took seventh in the 1,500m run in 3:54.97 to score for the Chargers, while Tarrant placed eighth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 54.34 and
Alfonso Garcia took eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.70 meters as well.
With the conference meet completed, Hillsdale now heads into Last Chance week looking to get as many athletes to the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships beginning on May 21, 2026 as possible. The Chargers have nine athletes that currently possess provisional qualifying marks and will travel across the Midwest next week to try and improve their chances, starting with a home Last Chance Meet on May 6.
