The Hillsdale College track and field team will be well represented on the biggest NCAA DII stage next week, as seven men's and women's athletes are among the field selected to compete at the 2026 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships.
The Outdoor Championships will take place in Emporia, Kansas at Emporia State University from May 21-23, with athletes from across the country competing for national championships and All-American honors.
Three members of Hillsdale's men's track and field team earned the right to compete in four events. 2025 NCAA DII hammer throw champion
Ben Haas will look to defend his crown and add a fourth national title to his trophy case, and he'll be joined in the hammer throw field by teammate and redshirt freshman
Dominic Scharer, who was an All-American indoors in the weight throw. Haas also will compete in the shot put for the Chargers, while senior
Ross Kuhn, a 2025 All-American in the 1,500m run, is back in the field looking for more honors this season as well.
On the women's side, the 2026 G-MAC Champion Chargers are sending four athletes in five events. Indoor 5,000m champion
Allison Kuzma will compete in the 10,000m run, an event she finished third in as a freshman in the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships, and is the top seed in the field. She's joined by sophomore
Amelia Lutz, an indoor All-American in the shot put, who is ranked second in the nation entering the outdoor shot put competition and will also compete in the hammer throw as well.
Senior
Tara Townsend, a two-time All-American in the pole vault, will compete in her fifth national meet in her signature event as well looking to build off an eighth-place finish in the 2025 championships, while freshman
Sofia Boonzaaijer, an indoor national meet qualifier in the shot put, will compete for the first time at an outdoor national meet in the discus.
