Freshman Sofia Boonzaaijer's career with the Hillsdale College women's track and field team is just getting started, and she's already bringing home big-time honors.

Boonzaaijer made her first NCAA DII Outdoor Championships appearance on Friday, competing in the discus in Emporia, Kansas, as one of only three freshmen in the field.

Even as a first-time outdoor qualifier, Boonzaaijer shined on the big stage. Her throw of 49.44 meters broke her own Hillsdale school record and held up throughout the finals, allowing the freshman to take sixth place overall and claim her her first collegiate All-American honors.

Boonzaaijer has been an important addition to the Chargers squad through the 2025-26 campaign. She also qualified for the NCAA DII Indoor Championships in the shot put and won the G-MAC outdoor title in the discus to earn co-Freshman of the Meet honors earlier in May. It's all an encouraging sign for the precocious freshman who will almost certainly be back on the national stage many more times in the future.

Along with Allison Kuzma and Tara Townsend's All-American finishes on Thursday, the Hillsdale women have racked up three All-American honors at the 2026 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships so far. Sophomore Amelia Lutz will look to add a fourth on Saturday as the team's final competitor in the meet, going for honors in the shot put final at 1:30 PM.
