Hillsdale College senior
Ben Haas completed an incredible career with the Chargers' men's track and field team at Saturday's 2026 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships in Emporia, Kansas, by obtaining one accomplishment that had eluded him to this point.
Already a seven-time All-American in the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer throw, Haas took seventh in the shot put at this year's outdoor championships to achieve an eighth All-American honor and his first in the shot put in four national meet attempts.
Haas fought his way into the final on his third and last throw in the opening round, with his mark of 17.47 meters proving to be just enough to grab the ninth and last spot. With three more throws to work with, Haas took full advantage of the new opportunity, hitting a mark of 18.30 meters on his fourth throw that was just five centimeters short of his personal best in the event, and good enough to claim All-American honors.
The senior wasn't the only athlete competing for Hillsdale for the final time on Saturday, as senior
Ross Kuhn also competed in the 1,500m run final. Kuhn, a 2025 Outdoor All-American in the event, fought hard in his final race, taking 11th in the nation with a time of 3:52.34.
Haas will graduate as one of Hillsdale's all-time greats in track and field, an eight-time All-American and three-time national champion who holds four school records in the indoor weight throw, outdoor hammer throw and both shot put events. Haas joins Hillsdale legend Paul Aufdemberge as the Chargers' only three-time national champion in men's track and field program history. Kuhn also leaves as the program record holder in the indoor mile and outdoor 1,500m run and the latest in a long line of All-American distance runners for the Charger men.
