A former Hillsdale College football standout has returned to the Chargers for this fall, looking to bring his knowledge to the next group of Hillsdale athletes.
Ryan Sellars, a 2022 graduate of Hillsdale College, joined the Chargers coaching staff this spring and will serve as the teams Assistant Defensive Line coach for the upcoming 2026 season.
Sellars played on the defensive line for four seasons for the Chargers, growing over time into a significant contributor and team captain as a senior. He battled through injuries to post career highs across the board in his senior season, and graduated with a degree in Marketing Management in the spring of 2022.
After two years working as a sales coordinator for Enerfab Power and Industrial, LLC, Sellars chose to return to the sport he loved as a coach. He spent a year in 2024 at Loveland High School north of Cincinnati in Ohio as a defensive line coach and JV defensive coordinator, helping develop a NCAA Division I defensive line recruit during his time with the Tigers, before making a leap into college coaching with NCAA Division II and G-MAC squad Thomas More.
Sellars spent the 2025 season as Thomas More's defensive line coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach, gaining valuable experience at the NCAA DII level. From the Saints, he had taken a position as a Defensive Graduate Assistant for NCAA DII power and 2023 national champion Harding University in January before his alma mater came calling and brought him home for the upcoming season.
As a part of the Chargers staff, Sellars will assist veteran defensive line coach
John Lindley in coaching his former unit, while also assisting Hillsdale in football operations, player development and recruiting.
Sellars' return to Hillsdale completes the Chargers' staff for the 2026 campaign. Along with his return, veteran assistant
Rob Rardin will also return to coaching tight ends as well as long snappers for the upcoming season, and
Brad Affholter will take full charge of the offensive line after serving as assistant o-line coach for the past three seasons. Head coach
Nate Shreffler will add coaching the running backs to his duties for the 2026 campaign as well.
Hillsdale opens the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against McKendree University at noon in Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium. The opener against the Bearcats will be one of seven home games for the Chargers on the 2026 schedule as Hillsdale looks to contend for its first G-MAC title since 2018.
