Hillsdale College

Eric Weiss

Eric Weiss

Eric Weiss joined the Hillsdale College program as an assistant men's basketball coach in July of 2020. It's his first assistant coaching job at the Division II level, but Weiss comes to Hillsdale with an impressive amount of basketball experience for someone just two seasons removed from his collegiate playing days.

Prior to Hillsdale, Weiss spent the last two years working at Division I University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, serving first as a graduate manager for the Panthers men's basketball team for the 2018-19 season and then as Milwaukee's Director of Basketball Operations for the 2019-20 season.

In his position with the Panthers, Weiss filled several roles, including managing the team's schedule, budget, transportation, marketing and compliance efforts, serving as the team's recruiting coordinator and taking a lead role in opposition scouting and player development. He also spent time as a head coach on the AAU circuit with the Wisconsin Swing in 2018, and served as an assistant coach with the Wisconsin Playground Warriors in 2016, as well as a runner intern at the Hoop Group Elite Camp in both 2016 and 2017.

That coaching experience follows a playing career at Division III Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin from 2014-2018. During his career with the Vikings, Weiss was named a team captain, received the Tony Kirkpatrick Award, and earned both Academic All-Midwest Conference honors and a spot on the 2017-18 NABC Honors Court. He also served as the Lawrence  Student Athlete Advisory Committee Represenative for men's basketball during his time with the program.

A Michigan native growing up, Weiss attended Bloomfield Hills High School and was a member of the Blackhawks' 2013-14 boys basketball squad that reached the MHSAA Division 1 state finals for the first time in program history.

Weiss graduated from Lawrence University in 2018 with a B.A. in History. He's looking forward to being part of the Hillsdale College Athletic Department and helping the Chargers chase championships in the winter.

"I want to thank Coach John Tharp, (Hillsdale College Athletic Director) Don Brubacher, and (Assistant Athletic Director) Josh Calver for giving me this opportunity," Weiss said. "I'm excited to be a part of the Charger basketball family and to get a chance to work with a group of extremely talented players and excellent people on a daily basis.

"Hillsdale College has a reputation for both academic and athletic excellence, and I'm looking forward to being a part of that and to do what I can help our team continue to live up to that standard going forward."
