As the first assistant hired by new Hillsdale College head women's basketball coach Charlie Averkamp, Amanda Parker brings a wealth of coaching experience and basketball knowledge to the Charger bench for the 2020-21 season.
Parker comes to Hillsdale after a successful two-year stint as head coach of the women's basketball program at NCAA Division III Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois, where she went head-to-head against Averkamp at his previous job with the Benedictine University Eagles in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
During her two years at Dominican, Parker coached the Stars to a 36-18 record, guiding Dominican to the NACC Tournament in both years, and tying for the second-best wins mark in program history with 19 wins in the 2019-20 campaign. While at Dominican, Parker coached Timiya Ray, a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American who finished her career as the Stars' leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker in program history, as well as earning 2020 NACC Woman of the Year Honors.
Parker got the job at Dominican after a very successful three-year run at Muskegon Community College in western Michigan, guiding the Jayhawks to three consecutive 20-plus win seasons and a 63-24 overall record and earning Junior College Coach of the Year Awards from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan in 2017 and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference in 2018. She helped develop several excellent individual stars at MCC, including Delaney Bolles, a NJCAA Division II All-American in 2017-18, and Kalisa Williams, the MCCAA Western Conference Freshman of the Year in 2016-17.
Before embarking on her coaching career, Parker was a star player herself at Division I Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo from 2004-08, starting for three seasons at power forward and finishing in the top 10 all-time in WMU history in single-season 3-point field goal percentage (43.1%, 05-06), career 3-point field goal percentage (35.4%) and career blocks (66).
Parker grew up in Muskegon, and graduated from Mona Shores High School after a standout career as a multi-sport athlete for the Sailors. She graduated from Western Michigan in 2008 with a B.S. in Exercise Science, and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Coaching Sport Performance at Western Michigan as well.
