After three years away from the sport she starred in while in college, Maddie Kanclerz returned to volleyball in the fall of 2024 as an assistant coach with her Alma Mater.

Kanclerz joined the coaching staff at Hillsdale College in August 2024 as an assistant, completing the Chargers' staff for the season to come in September. In her first season of collegiate coaching, she helped Hillsdale to a 22-5 record as the Chargers extended their streak of seasons with a conference championship to eight and their streak of NCAA Tournament appearances to seven.

It's a full-circle moment for Kanclerz, who played at Hillsdale from 2017 to 2021 under her maiden name, Clark.  As an outside hitter, she developed over five seasons and became an integral part of Hillsdale's Midwest Regional Championship squad in 2021, helping lead the team to their second-ever Elite Eight appearance while earning third-team All-G-MAC honors for her play throughout the season.

All told, Kanclerz was a part of five G-MAC regular season championships, five G-MAC Tournament Championships and four NCAA DII Tournament appearances during her time as a player at Hillsdale, and helped the Chargers go undefeated in G-MAC play in each of her final four seasons.

Kanclerz graduated from Hillsdale in December of 2021 following the conclusion of volleyball season with a bachelor's degree in Marketing Management, and stayed at Hillsdale College to begin her career, spending three successful years as Hillsdale College's Director of Student Activities. Ultimately, however, Kanclerz's love for the sport of volleyball and the opportunity to begin a college coaching career brought her back to the athletic department.

She has deep roots in Hillsdale County that long predate her time at Hillsdale College. A native of Pittsford, Michigan, just 11 miles southeast of the Hillsdale College campus, Kanclerz was one of the biggest prep stars in the history of the County, leading Pittsford High to back-to-back MHSAA state titles in girls' basketball and earning 2017 Class D Player of the Year honors, while also earning first team All-State recognition in volleyball and winning a state championship in the discus in track and field. 

Kanclerz currently resides in Hillsdale, Michigan with her husband, Cody.
