2023: Had a record-setting campaign for Hillsdale in 2023, developing into a true six-rotation player and earning honorable mention All-American honors from the AVCA…also earned All-Midwest Region recognition from the AVCA, as well as first-team All-G-MAC honors for the second-straight year…394 kills led team and rank eighth all-time in Hillsdale history for a single season, and the junior also finished second on the team in digs with 266 and third in service aces with 34…set a new Hillsdale single match record with eight aces in Hillsdale’s win over Wayne State on Sept. 8…double-digit kills in 24 of 34 matches, including three matches of 20 or more kills, led by a season-high 22 against Walsh on Oct. 1…made the All-Tournament Team for both the G-MAC Tournament and the Midwest Region Crossover, finishing with double-digit kills in all six matches and leading Hillsdale to a 5-1 record and the G-MAC title…also made All-Tournament teams for both the UP Open and the Findlay Classic to start the season…twice named the G-MAC North Division Offensive Player of the Week…excellent student who received Hillsdale’s President’s Scholar-Athlete Award and CSC Academic All-District honors in 2023…veteran leader who will play a big role for the Chargers in 2024.
2022:Â One of Hillsdale's top offensive weapons in her first full season as a starter, earning first-team All-G-MAC honors while finishing in the top 10 in the conference in kills per set and points per set...also earned CSC Academic All-District honors as one of the volleyball team's top student-athletes off the court as well as on it...second on the team in 2022 with 393 kills, the eighth-most in a single season in Hillsdale College history under the current scoring rules...had one of the greatest single-match performances in Chargers history in Hillsdale's five-set upset of second-seeded Lewis in the NCAA Tournament (Nov. 17), breaking the program record for kills in a single match with 28...finished with double-digit kills in 20 of the 34 matches she played in, including the final eight matches of the season to help Hillsdale clinch the G-MAC North Division title, win the G-MAC Tournament for the sixth-straight year, and make a run in the NCAA Tournament.
2021:Â Breakout star of Hillsdale's NCAA DII Tournament, going from barely playing just a month before to one of the most important pieces in the Chargers' tourney run...totaled 54 of her 109 kills in Hillsdale's six postseason matches, including a career-high and team-leading 18 kills in Hillsdale's four-set victory over Ferris State to clinch the NCAA Midwest Regional title (Dec. 4)...also hit .500 with nine kills in Hillsdale's narrow five-set victory over Michigan Tech in the regional semifinal (Dec. 3)...emergence started in a three-set loss to Ferris State on Oct. 26, when Popplewell came off the bench to hit .600 with 10 kills against the Bulldogs...finished sixth on the team in kills despite playing in just 18 matches, and her 2.32 kills per set ranked fourth among Hillsdale players...will contend for a full-time starting role in the fall of 2022.
High School: Two-sport athlete and star for Mason High School (OH)...put up 545 kills in four seasons for the Comets, leading Mason to four straight Greater Miami Conference titles and earning three straight All-Conference and two straight All-District honors, as well as the 2020 GMC Player of the Year Award...also helped lead Mason to the OHSAA state semifinals in basketball in 2018, and earned honorable mention All-Ohio honors in 2021...standout on the club volleyball scene with Elevation...4-year winner of the Mason High Principal's Award for Academic Achievement, and a recipient of the Ohio State Leadership Book Award in 2021...was a part of the Mason High choir and volunteered with the school's peer tutoring program...parents are Matt and Katie Hornung.
