It's difficult to be more dominant than the Hillsdale College volleyball team was on Saturday evening.
The Chargers produced one of their most efficient two-way performances in a long time in a 3-0 win over Lake Superior State University at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena. it was the team's fourth straight 3-0 sweep. The set scores were 25-15, 25-8 and 25-15.
Hillsdale is 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the GLIAC, and will have a showdown for first place in the South Division with Findlay at 7:00 Tuesday night.
Every hitter in Hillsdale's lineup had a hitting percentage of .500 or better. The team had a .486 hitting percentage for the match, committing just four hitting errors. By comparison, LSSU had a team hitting percentage of .014, finishing with 18 kills and 17 hitting errors.
The biggest contrast in the match came in the second set, which saw the Chargers score 20 of the final 23 points. In that set, Hillsdale had 15 kills on 19 attempts for an astounding .789 hitting percentage. The Chargers held the Lakers to a .000 hitting percentage in that same set, creating a hitting percentage differential of .789, something very rarely seen at any level of the sport.
Keying the offense was setter Marissa Owen, who played quick defense to go along with her good sets. She finished with 27 assists. Six different Chargers had 3 or more kills in the match.
Junior Jordan Denmark continued her ascending play with a team-best 9 kills with a .615 hitting percentage. Junior Haylee Booms had 7 kills without an error, and had 2 block assists. Junior Emily Wolfert added 7 kills for the Chargers.
Freshman libero Brittany Jandasek had a team-high 12 digs for Hillsdale.
