Tennis Team Rebounds to Top Ill.-Springfield

Box score

After losing a close match Friday in Illinois, the Hillsdale College men's tennis team rebounded to post a close win in the state of Illinois Saturday.

The Chargers knocked off host Illinois-Springfield 5-4 in a non-conference matchup in Illinois' state capital. Hillsdale is now 4-2 on the season.

Hillsdale's depth was a key to this win. The Chargers won singles matches at flights four through six, led by a dramatic win by Zach Rabitoy at No. 5 singles. Rabitoy recovered from losing his second set 6-0 to post a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win in the most competitive win for the Chargers.

Jerry Hewitt (No. 6 singles) and John Ciraci (No. 4 singles) were straight-sets winners.

Hillsdale's depth was also evident in the doubles flights, where the team won two of three matches with UIS.

The No. 1 doubles team of Justin Hyman and Dugan Delp pulled out a 9-8 win. There was less drama in Rabitoy's and Hewitt's win at No. 3 doubles, an 8-3 decision.
