The Hillsdale men's tennis team won two of the six draws contested in a solid start to the 2026-27 season at its annual home Summer Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

Hillsdale's top performer in singles was junior Rintaro Goda, who bested Max Peinado-Esteban of Walsh 7-5, 6-4 and Doug Cree of Ashland in a thrilling tiebreak, 6-4, 7-6 (1) to bring home the D singles draw title in an impressive opening performance.

The Chargers also had success in the B doubles draw as the British duo of junior Ryan Papazov and freshman Jack Ford won three straight matches to claim the flight title. Papazov and Ford made the victory look easy, dropping just five total games in a 6-2 win over Lawrence Tech in the quarterfinal, a 6-2 win over a team from Ashland in the semis, and a 6-1 win over Lawrence Tech's other team in the final of the flight.

In the top singles draw, Hillsdale freshman Zeteny Paragi had an impressive start to his collegiate career, downing Cian Thomas of Lawrence Tech 6-0, 6-5 and winning a hard-fought match against Ashland's Nolah Guerin, 6-4, 7-6 (4) to reach the final. Facing off against the defending G-MAC Player of the Year, Walsh's Ross Trias, in the final, Paragi fell, 6-4, 6-2 but battled, giving Trias his toughest match by score on his path to the title.

Papazov also bounced back from an opening round loss to Trias in the A draw to take the consolation title, defeating Ashland's Eduardo Lima 6-3, 6-0 along the way.

In the B singles draw, Hillsdale's Alex Cordero Lopez won his opener over Enzo Yabiku of Lawrence Tech 6-1, 6-2, before falling in the semifinal, while Patrick Cretu rebounded from a first round loss to take the consolation title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ryohei Miyake of Ashland, 6-1, 6-0 and Kaj Salzano of Ashland, 6-4, 6-3.

Ford got a win in the C singles draw for the Chargers, defeating Lawrence Tech's Arthur Rochus 6-2, 6-1 to pick up his first collegiate singles victory.

In the A doubles draw, Hillsdale's teams of seniors Henry Hammond and Ellis Klanduch and Paragi and Cretu each advanced to the consolation final with victories, with the veteran pair of Hammond and Klanduch taking the title over Paragi and Cretu in a 6-3 match.

Hillsdale will look to build off a solid opening result in two weeks, when the Chargers head to Grand Rapids on Sept. 25 for an invitational hosted by Davenport.
