Lakers Defeat Chargers in GLIAC Men's Tennis Opener

Box score

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team faced a stiff test in its first GLIAC match in 14 years Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers lost a 7-2 decision to Grand Valley State in the 2016  conference opener for both teams. Hillsdale is now 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the GLIAC, and will host Ferris State at noon Sunday.

A bright spot for Hillsdale was the play of sophomore Dugan Delp, who won both of his matches. He cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

Delp teamed up with freshman Justin Hyman for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles as well. Delp has won five of his last six singles and doubles matches, quickly becoming a consistent force on this young team.
