Men's Tennis Team Picks Up 1st Conference Win

Box score

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team broke into the conference win column with a 5-4 win over Michigan Tech Sunday afternoon in Houghton.

The Chargers are now 6-6 overall and 1-3 in GLIAC play.

The team's singles depth was a key part of this win. Michigan Tech won matches at No. 2 and 3 singles, but Hillsdale went 3-0 in flights four through six to pull out the victory.

Freshman Justin Hyman capped a 2-0 weekend at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Freshman John Ciraci got the team back on track with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. Teammates Zach Rabitoy (No. 5 singles) and Jerry Hewitt (No. 6 singles) were just as impressive, recording straight-set wins. Hewitt played especially strong in a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Hyman and sophomore Dugan Delp cruised to an 8-4 win at No. 1 singles for Hillsdale.

UP NEXT: Hillsdale faces Wayne State on April 9 starting at 10 a.m.
