Men's Tennis Opens Season With Impressive Win

The 2016-17 season couldn't have gotten off to a much better start than it did for the Hillsdale College men's tennis team.

The Chargers looked sharp up and down the lineup in a 9-0 non-league win over Cedarville University Friday afternoon at the Marogt V. Biermann Center. Hillsdale is 1-1 after the win over a future Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponent.

All six singles flights won their matches in straight sets, while the doubles teams won their matches by a combined score of 24-4.

Freshman Charlie Adams was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles over a talented foe from the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Justin Hyman breezed to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, while Milan Mirkovic earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

Junior Dugan Delp was victorious in his first home match of the new year, 6-3, 6-2, while John Ciraci won the longest match of the singles flight, 6-3, 7-6 (2). Julien Clouette brought home a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

Hyman and Delp were 8-1 winners at No. 1 doubles, while Adams and Ciraci tossed an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles. Clouette and Mirkovic teamed up for a tidy 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

UP NEXT: Hillsdale faces Lewis University on the road Monday.
