The biggest win in the recent history of Hillsdale College men's tennis unfolded at home Sunday afternoon.
The Chargers pulled off their third win over a regionally ranked opponent this season, defeating Northwood for the very first time, 5-4. The win, Hillsdale's fifth in its past six matches, makes the team 10-7 on the season.
For a second-year program, Hillsdale's success against teams ranked in a region is remarkable. The Chargers have no seniors and just one junior on the roster. And that one junior stepped up in a big way in the win over the Timberwolves.
Dugan Delp, the team's oldest player, used his experience and determination to pick up two of the team's five wins. He won a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles, rallying impressively after losing the first set. At No. 2 doubles, he teamed up with Jophn Ciraci for a clutch 9-7 win.
Freshman Charlie Adams was also a double winner, winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, while going in on an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with Justin Hyman.
The No. 3 doubles team of Julien Clouette and Milan Mirkovic also came through with a big win, 8-3. They helped the Chargers go 3-0 in doubles competition, setting the stage for the team's most satisfying win of the season.
