Hillsdale Improves to 7-1 After Shutting Out Huskies

The Charger men's tennis team vanquished another GLIAC foe at home Saturday afternoon.

Hillsdale recorded five singles wins in straight sets in a 7-0 win over Michigan Tech University at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. The team improves to 7-1 overall on the season with the win, its second in a row.

The Chargers went 3-0 in doubles play, picking up the point. Charlie Adams and Justin Hyman were 6-4 winners in the No. 1 flight. John Ciraci and Brian Hackman came through in the clutch with a 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 2 doubles. Michael Szabo and Gabe Katz teamed up for a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Adams had no trouble winning at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Hyman nearly matched that score at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1. Ciraci was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles, while Szabo earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.

Jerry Hewitt picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. The most dramatic match of the day took place at No. 6 singles, when newcomer Freddie Heegan gutted out a 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 win at No. 6 singles, clinching the shutout for Hillsdale.
