Charger Men Open Tennis Season With 5-2 Win Over Nationally Ranked Mercyhurst

This year's Charger men's tennis team is a determined bunch. In its first match of the spring season, Hillsdale showed it.

Taking on a team that finished in the Division II national rankings, the Chargers put together an impressive performance in a 5-2 win over Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. 

The match got off to a strong start in doubles, with all three Charger teams coming through with wins. Veteran Charlie Adams teamed up with newcomer Ivanhoe Lissanevitch for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Michael Szabo and Brian Hackman were also 6-3 winners at No. 2 doubles, while Tyler Conrad teamed up with Julien Clouette for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Conrad, who has already won a G-MAC Player of the Week honor, won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. Hackman rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. 

Lissanevitch won his first singles match of the season, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Adams also posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1.
